Save our libraries
The council is currently consulting on the future of Birmingham's libraries. The council has indicated that it's preferred proposals for the libraries in this constituency are to keep Quinton library fully operational, co-locate Harborne library and to have Bartley Green library run and funded by community partners. This is not a final decision and the consultation is still open.
I am fighting to save all the libraries in my constituency. I want to ensure that each library service operates in a way that serves the communities that use them, so I would encourage everyone to feed into the ongoing consultation.
You can complete the council's survey online here: Libraries Consultation- Final Phase 24 - Birmingham City Council - Citizen Space (birminghambeheard.org.uk)
The council's survey closes on Friday 27th September.
I am also actively exploring alternative options that could help secure the the future of our libraries. One such option is the possibility of establishing a Friends of the Library groups—a voluntary organisation made up of local residents who would take an active role in supporting and running the library. This model has been successful in other areas and could provide a sustainable way to keep the library viable for the long term, while ensuring it continues to serve as a vital hub for our community.
